The Village of Orland Park is seeking a Maintenance Worker I for the Streets Division to perform day-to-day maintenance and construction of Village-owned roadways and related appurtenances.

Excellent benefits and union representation are provided. A Class A CDL with air brake, trailer, and tanker endorsements is required within six months of employment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform restoration work in ROW, patch potholes and roadways, snow removal and salting as required.
• Install, measure, grade and repair concrete work; sidewalk grinding; striping; repair streetlights and traffic signs.
• Operate light and heavy-duty equipment; meet deadlines; overtime/on-call during evenings, weekends, holidays; possible late/early shifts for snow.

Opportunity at a Glance

The Village of Orland Park’s Public Works Department is seeking a Maintenance Worker I for the Streets Division to perform day-to-day maintenance and construction of the Village-owned roadways and related appurtenances.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to; perform restoration work in right of ways (ROW), patching potholes and roadways, snow removal and salting roadways as required. Other duties include installing, measuring, grading and repair of concrete work, sidewalk grinding, misc. roadway and parking lot striping, repairing streetlights, electric lines and traffic signs, operating light and heavy-duty motor vehicle equipment and tools and completing other assignments as required. It is a requirement for this position to be available for any of the duties stated above or any other duties as directed.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

This position requires a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 years of related public works or maintenance/construction experience along with experience and skill in the use of hand tools and in the operation of gasoline and electric powered tools and equipment.

Other requirements include the ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and endurance, the ability to perform duties in adverse working conditions and the ability to meet deadlines and work well with others. This position requires availability for overtime and periodic on-call for evenings, weekends and holidays and making decisions in accordance with established policies. Depending on winter weather, work shifts may include late evening or early morning extended hours to address snow accumulations. This position also requires a Class “A” CDL Illinois Driver’s license with air brake, trailer, and tanker endorsements. Failure to obtain a CDL/A Illinois Driver’s License with the proper endorsements within the first six months of employment will result in termination of employment. Compensation & Benefits

The Village of Orland Park offers a market competitive total rewards package that includes a base salary range between $55,333.68 and $86,234.73, depending on experience and qualifications.

This position is represented by the AFSCME Union and is eligible for the Village of Orland Park’s comprehensive employee benefits program which includes medical plan designs offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, dental, vision, life insurance, and an employee wellness program. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided along with the option to participate in a 457(b) plan with Nationwide.
