Job description

Are you someone who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in keeping your community running smoothly? The City of Manassas is looking for a dedicated Public Works Maintenance Worker for Streets to join our team!

In this role, you'll perform essential construction and maintenance work to keep our streets, utilities, and public facilities in top condition. From repairing roadways and sidewalks to assisting with utility projects, you'll be making a real impact every day.

What We’re Looking For:
  • A team player with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Experience in construction, maintenance, or related fields (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and light-to-medium equipment.
  • Reliable and safety-conscious, with a commitment to serving the community.

The pay rate for this position is $19.21 per hour.

This position is open until filled and may close at any time. What You'll Do:
  • Perform construction, repair, and maintenance, including concrete and asphalt work, of City streets, sidewalks, curbs, and drainage systems
  • Patch holes, compact road surfaces, maintain drainage systems, install/repair/cut pipe, construct/repair ditches, clear drainage obstructions, clear ditches/gutters, break up pipes and concrete, mix cement, install fences
  • Excavate and grade sites, dig holes/trenches and shovel/spread/level materials (dirt, sand, gravel and base, concrete, asphalt, etc.)
  • Operate a variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles for road maintenance and repair tasks
  • Assist with traffic control, marker, cone, and signage installation, and roadway safety measures
  • Respond to emergency situations such as storm clean-up and hazardous roadway conditions
  • Work as part of a team to keep the City running smoothly and looking great!

Valid Virginia Driver's License



Street Department employees must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s) within six months of hire.
