Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Maintenance Worker I to perform a variety of labor tasks in street, storm drain, sewer, water main, and facility maintenance. This role involves operating light equipment, loading materials, and ensuring safety on and around active work zones.

Qualifications include basic safety knowledge and the ability to perform heavy physical labor. Candidates must obtain a Texas Driver's License during probation and be prepared for on-site field work in a public environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures.
• May require knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, mechanics, landscaping, and specialized equipment.
• May require knowledge, use, and care of hand and power tools such as jackhammer, cement mixer, and power auger.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from a supervisor or crew leader.
• Ability to perform a variety of moderate to heavy physical labor for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Assists in setting forms and pouring concrete, laying asphalt, and crack seal for sidewalks and streets.
• Assists in laying pipes for storm or sanitary sewers and water mains.
• Loads and unloads tools and materials for repairs.
• Flags traffic and places safety devices to protect workers and the public.
• Digs ditches and trenches and cleans debris from job sites.
• Operates equipment to clean drainage and remove obstructions.
