Job summary

The Village of Downers Grove is seeking a Public Works Technician I to locate and verify storm sewers, water mains, and utilities in the field. You will support GIS maps and atlas data, and assist residents with information requests.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent; a two-year technical degree is preferred. A valid Illinois Class B CDL with air brakes is required. The role includes on-call duties and participation in snow/ice removal and emergency response.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; two-year technical or college degree preferred.
• Two years of related work experience or education that provides required knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections to locate and verify the locations of storm sewer pipes, water mains, traffic signal conduit, street light conduit, and Village-owned fiber optic lines
• Provides data for the maintenance of storm sewer and water main atlas maps for GIS applications
• Assists the public with requests for information
• Serves as backup and/or after-hours on-call rotation for J.U.L.I.E. locate requests
• Assists in activities related to snow and ice removal, special events, and emergency situations as needed
• Other related duties as required
