Job summary

The Village of South Elgin's Public Works Department seeks an entry level Maintenance Worker I for the Streets & Forestry Division, serving a community of about 24,000 residents. The role supports construction, maintenance, operation, and repair of streets, parkways, trees, lights, and storm sewers, including snow removal duties.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, and a State of Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (Class B).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum two years in road construction or municipal maintenance preferred.
• Valid State of Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine skilled labor in construction, maintenance, operation, repair and replacement of public infrastructure.
• Snow removal duties during winter conditions and emergencies.
• Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently with adherence to safety standards.
• Respond to after-hours call-backs and emergencies as needed.
• Assist with maintenance of streets, parkways, right-of-ways, trees, and storm sewers.
