Job summary

City of Malibu is seeking an Engineering Technician in the Public Works Department to support permit processing, field inspections, and engineering recordkeeping. Responsibilities include reviewing development plans, preparing plans and exhibits, and maintaining databases with GIS and CAD tools.

The role requires at least a high school diploma, three years in civil engineering or related fields, and a California driver license.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from high school; college level coursework in engineering desirable.
• Three years of experience in civil engineering, construction, or related industries; public agency experience desirable.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation/distribution of engineering plans and specifications; coordinate advertising for bids and review bids.
• Review private development plans for compliance with codes and regulations; assess completeness and approve conditions.
• Perform basic design and drafting duties for streets, storm drains, traffic engineering and other projects.
• Review encroachment, transportation, street vendor, special events permits; may issue routine permits.
• Provide technical information to public; respond to inquiries from contractors, developers, and property owners.
• Create engineering exhibits using specialized software; organize and maintain databases.
