Job summary

The City of Malibu Public Works Department is seeking an Engineering Technician to support permit review, field inspections, and data management. Under supervision, you will prepare plans, maintain records, and assist with capital improvement projects.

The ideal candidate will have experience with permits, GIS/AutoCAD, and providing clear information to contractors and the public. A high school diploma and engineering coursework are desirable, with three years in civil engineering or related

Qualifications

Equivalent to graduation from high school; college coursework in engineering desirable.
Three (3) years of experience in civil engineering, construction, or related fields; public agency exposure desirable.

Responsibilities

Assist in preparation and distribution of engineering plans and specifications; review bids and advise on selections.
Review private development plans for compliance with codes and standards; assess permit applications.
Perform basic design and drafting duties for streets, storm drains, traffic engineering, and related projects.
Review encroachment, transportation, street vendor, and other permits; issue routine permits as appropriate.
Provide technical information to the public and respond to inquiries from contractors, developers, and property owners.
