Job summary

The Spokane Division of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office seeks an Assistant Attorney General to join the Labor & Industries Section. The role focuses on representing DLI before the BIIA and state courts, with emphasis on industrial insurance and related matters.

Ideal candidates will have strong writing and advocacy skills, the ability to manage a demanding caseload, and experience in civil litigation, discovery, and motions. Regular travel to several counties is expected.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest in public sector law.
• Strong writing and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage an active caseload and meet deadlines.
• Civil litigation experience including discovery, drafting motions and briefs.
• Familiarity with Washington Civil Rules and Rules of Evidence.

Responsibilities

• Conduct direct and cross-examinations in hearings and depositions.
• Effectively handling motion practice and discovery.
• Conduct legal research and write briefs and pleadings.
• Interact with outside parties and stakeholders.
• Negotiate resolutions.
• Present arguments orally and in writing; engage in superior court practice including jury trials.
