Job summary

City of Beverly is seeking a Public Safety Telecommunicator to support the Beverly Public Safety Dispatch Center. The role handles 911 and non-emergency calls, dispatches police, fire, and EMS, and maintains critical computer records in a fast-paced environment.

The position requires flexible shifts, strong listening and communication skills, and the ability to work under stress while ensuring public safety data is accurately entered and protocol followed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year Public Safety Dispatch experience preferred.
• Must obtain Emergency Medical Dispatch, CPR, NG911, APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator, Fire Services and Criminal Justice Information Certifications within the first 6 months of employment.
• Must be able and willing to work all shifts (including nights, weekends and holidays).
• Effective listening and communication skills, as well as patience, and common sense.
• Ability to make sound decisions under stress.
• Be proficient in the use of communications equipment.
• Must be willing to submit and pass a thorough background check.

Responsibilities

• Receive, screen and prioritize emergency 911, non-emergency, and TTY calls for service.
• Operate a multi-frequency radio system to monitor and dispatch units.
• Enter calls into a CAD system and maintain accurate records.
• Maintain CJIS certification as a teletype operator for state/national systems.
• Interpret maps and use AVL to determine unit locations.
• Monitor civil emergencies and disasters and relay information to agencies.
• Work rotating shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
