Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is hiring Public Safety Communicators to support a 24/7 Emergency Communications Center. This role requires handling urgent and routine public safety calls, using CAD and E911/NG911 systems, and delivering critical instructions to callers.

Training and advancement opportunities are available across multiple levels depending on experience and credentials. New hires must meet CJIS and TCOLE requirements, pass background checks, and be prepared for irregular shifts, including

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Must pass a drug screening.
• Must pass an examination by a psychologist or psychiatrist licensed by Texas boards.
• Must meet TCOLE & CJIS requirements.

Responsibilities

• Responds to, prioritizes and facilitates emergency and non-emergency requests for public safety assistance; utilizing established procedures and guidelines.
• Utilizes E911/NG911 telephony, texting, video, alerting and TDD/TTY/RTT systems to communicate with the community, including deaf and hearing-impaired individuals.
• Utilizes CAD and other public safety technologies to process requests and maintain situational awareness for responders.
• Asks questions to interpret, analyze and resolve problems, and make quick, emergent decisions in public interest.
• Conducts structured interviews to obtain, verify, and assess critical information regarding an incident.
• Determines, verifies, and documents caller and incident location information using location technologies and caller information.
• Provides pre-arrival and lifesaving instructions to the community and responders.
• Maintains situational awareness and updates incident information while communicating with callers and documenting information.
• Maintains operations during high-volume events, emergencies, and disasters.
