Positions Location: Lansing, MI
General Purpose of Job: To provide a safe, secure, and orderly environment so that quality, compassionate, accessible healthcare services can be provided without undue fear for personal safety and the safety of property. Public Safety Operation Center Dispatchers receive requests for security, police assistance, security entrance services, parking, and other types of assistance from the hospital, public, and Sparrow affiliates. They monitor cameras, alarm systems, calls for service, and dispatch as appropriate. Dispatchers serve as a vital link between the hospital and external first responders.
This job description covers the minimum essential duties assigned regularly. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership reserves the right to modify duties as needed.
Education: Associates Degree in a relevant field or High School Diploma/GED with two years of relevant experience, preferably in healthcare security.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid MI Driver License, certification in verbal de-escalation, Basic 911 telecommunications, FEMA IS courses, LEIN, and security awareness training, all completed within specified timeframes.
Knowledge and Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and under pressure; proficiency with security technology and software; ability to perform self-defense and crisis intervention; knowledge of police procedures and laws; ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism; trustworthy with sensitive information.
Applicants with felony convictions or under indictment are disqualified. Must pass background checks and demonstrate proficiency regularly.
