Job summary

Qualifications

• Graduation from High School or GED.
• Skill in operating telecommunication equipment and determining call seriousness.
• Type at least 40 words per minute with minimal errors; typing results may be requested.
• Remain calm in emergencies and communicate with diverse groups tactfully.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls and route to appropriate dispatchers.
• Enter call details into computer and prioritize service.
• Assign call requests to law enforcement or fire/EMS over a two-way radio.
• Respond to inquiries about CAD incident numbers, case numbers, and locations.
• Research databases to verify driver licenses, warrants, and criminal history.
• Maintain responder location and enroute status logs.
• Assist training of new dispatch staff in procedures and equipment.
