Job summary

County of San Juan (NM) seeks a Public Safety Telecommunicator to manage intake of emergency and nonemergency calls, dispatch units, and track ongoing incidents via CAD. You will relay information to field responders and ensure timely updates according to policy.

Responsibilities include applying protocols for classification and prioritization, maintaining logs, and supporting communication between units while remaining calm under pressure and providing pre-arrival instructions when needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to pass established pre-employment skills testing.
• Must pass background checks.
• Must pass pre-employment psychological exam.
• Must pass required hearing exam and drug screening.
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Handle intake and processing of incoming emergency and nonemergency calls.
• Dispatch and track calls for service, relay information to field units.
• Enter calls for service into Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
• Provide updates and other information to field units enabling safe and effective operations.
• Apply established protocols for classification and prioritization of calls; deliver pre-arrival instructions as needed.
