Job summary

St. Edward's University is seeking a Police Telecommunications Operator to direct field personnel and provide patrol units with real-time, actionable information.

The role requires calm decision-making under stress, effective communication, and the ability to manage several tasks concurrently. The candidate must hold a Texas TCOLE Basic Telecommunications license (or have 2+ years of public safety dispatch experience), with a high school diploma or GED; some college or a degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Texas TCOLE Basic Telecommunications license or have 2+ years of public safety dispatch experience.
• High school diploma or GED; some college or a Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required licenses and certifications per FCC, State, and Department policy.
• Pass extensive background checks, fingerprinting, psychological, medical, and physical testing.
• Not indicted or convicted of offenses beyond Class C misdemeanors; not prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.
• Ability to operate a multi-line phone system and basic MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Receive and answer emergency and information calls on multiple lines (emergency lines, radiophone, telephones).
• Dispatch officers via police radio and CAD, monitor law enforcement frequencies, and maintain logs.
• Think and act promptly in emergencies, operate radio, CAD, and dispatch systems cohesively.
• Maintain records of all calls and patrol activities; dispatch officers as needed.
• Monitor CCTV; complete necessary reports and coordinate with agencies.
