Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a City Research Scientist to advance adolescent sexual and reproductive health data initiatives. The role involves data collection, cleaning, analysis with SAS and R, and collaboration with schools and clinics to support evaluation objectives.

Requires master’s-level public health training and strong technical writing skills; offers loan forgiveness and comprehensive benefits with potential work-from-home days depending on position.

Qualifications

• Academic training in epidemiology (MPH or MS) with emphasis on sexual and reproductive health.
• Strong quantitative analytic skills (qualitative skills are desired).
• Ability to manipulate and analyze data using SAS and R.
• Strong organizational skills with good follow-through to meet deadlines.
• Strong written, verbal and editing skills, including summaries, reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Tableau, and ArcGIS.

Responsibilities

• Support SRHE Unit evaluation activities with technical, administrative, and research support.
• Manage data collection and research efforts: data entry, tools, databases, and cleaning.
• Analyze data using SAS, R, and other software; perform geocoding where needed.
• Prepare periodic reports and assist in manuscripts and presentations.
• Coordinate with schools, clinics, and partners to facilitate data collection.
• Assist with other duties and special projects as required.
