Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene invites applications for City Research Scientist to join the Communicable Diseases Data Analyst and Program Evaluation Specialist role in the Bureau of Communicable Disease. You will lead analyses of infectious disease surveillance data, direct program evaluation efforts, and supervise city researchers and trainees.

Applicants should hold advanced degrees in public health or related fields and possess strong data analysis skills, plus

Qualifications

• Master's degree with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental science or public health.
• Doctorate in an appropriate field with supervisory/research experience; or
• Master's plus three years of responsible full-time research experience; or
• Equivalent combination with at least a master's degree and two years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and supervise staff in program evaluation, QA, data analysis, and investigation of disease outbreaks.
• Develop dashboards and reports to evaluate timeliness and data quality.
• Perform descriptive analyses to identify workflow improvements.
• Design data collection frameworks and surveys for disease investigation and research.
• Maintain records and document decisions for transparency and reproducibility.
• Prepare analytic reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Supervise and mentor research scientists and trainees.
• Support maintenance of Maven surveillance system and data sharing with partners.
• Summarize literature to keep subject matter experts updated.
• Prepare analytic datasets and support interpretation of findings.

Education

Master's degree in public health or related field

Doctorate degree in physical, biological, environmental or social science

At least two years supervisory/ research experience
