Responsibilities

  • Report malfunctioning meters, faded curb paint, vandalized signs.
  • Inspect and maintain enforcement vehicles; arrange repairs.
  • Provide testimony on City's behalf for contested citations.
  • Answer public inquiries at the front desk.
  • Assist in surveys of parking facilities and on-street occupancy studies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

THE POSITION

The City is looking to fill one (1) part-time Parking Enforcement Technician position in the Public Works Department.

The candidate is required to have the capacity to work a minimum of seven consecutive hours during any of the enforcement hours specified below.

ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, prior work experience in a role that required high public contact, attention to detail, and the ability to act tactfully and professionally in sensitive situations while representing the City of Alameda. Prior experience is desirable, but not required.

The current shift hours are:

Wednesday and Thursday 10:30am-6:00pm

Thursday and Saturday 11:30am-7:00pm

Work schedules for this part-time position may vary based on operational and departmental needs and may include any day between Monday and Saturday during the enforcement hours. This position is responsible for enforcement of local regulations and ordinances governing parking of vehicles according to established practices and procedures.

  1. Patrols an assigned area of the City in order to observe vehicles in violation of parking regulations.
  2. Operates vehicles systems with Automate License Plate Reader (ALPR).
  3. Tracks vehicles to verify compliance with restricted parking time limits and other parking restrictions.
  4. Enforces local regulations and ordinances by issuing citations and warnings.
  5. Explains parking and related traffic laws to members of the public and responds to complaints from the public.
  6. Maintains accurate records of work performed and surveillance of long-term parking violations.
  7. Notifies Police of public safety concerns or incidents involving abusive behavior by the public, and reports observance of code or ordinance violations or emergency situations to the appropriate authorities.
  8. Reports malfunctioning parking meters, faded paint on curbs, vandalized signs, or other issues that may impede compliance and enforcement.
  9. Inspects and maintains condition of enforcement vehicles and takes them to Fleet Services for service and repair when necessary.
  10. Provides support and testimony on City's behalf for contested parking citations.
  11. Answers public inquiries and conducts related work at the front desk.
  12. Periodically assists in surveys of parking facilities and performs on-street parking studies of occupancy and location.
  13. Performs related duties as assigned.
