Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota is seeking a Psychiatric Technician to join the Emergency Psychiatric Empath Unit. You will provide direct and indirect patient care to adults and children, support safety and milieu management, and help implement treatment plans in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The role focuses on empathetic, patient-centered care with a multidisciplinary team, offering ongoing training and opportunities for professional development within Mayo Clinic’s renowned health system.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a mental health or behavioral assistant working with adults and/or children OR completion of 12 college credits preferred.
• Experience with 24/7 residential programs or psychiatry & psychology-based programs preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations in stressful and ambiguous situations.
• Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office suite and/or competency with electronic clinic documentation.
• Demonstrates ability to multi-task under stressful situations.
• Demonstrates ability to communicate, collaborate and manage relationships with interdisciplinary members while maintaining patient/family centeredness and safety in a timely, efficient, and equitable manner.
• Basic skills in cleaning, cooking, and meal preparation.

Responsibilities

• Involved in both direct and indirect patient care within the Psychiatric Emergency Empath Unit.
• Assist residents in social, clinical, nutritional, and observational activities to ensure safe milieu.
• Lead social activities, games and crafts to engage patients in milieu and therapy concepts.
