Job summary

SUN Behavioral Health in Columbus, OH seeks a Behavioral Health Technician to provide direct and indirect patient care under RN/LPN supervision. You will help with personal care, safety, and the overall comfort of psychiatric patients in a structured environment.

You will participate in CQI activities and collaborate with the treatment team to monitor behavior, administer 15-minute observations, and support therapeutic groups. Prior healthcare experience and de-escalation training are valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• CPR certification is required.
• De-escalation technique certification is required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is preferred.
• Some college coursework is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Performs and records patient vital signs, intake and output; notifies RN of any changes.
• Continuously observes patients' behavior, mental status and activities; notifies RN of any changes.
• Demonstrates ability to identify behaviors that require intervention.
• Escorts patients when leaving the unit for activities, meals, visitation, and tests.
• Assists with patient safety checks and documents appropriately.
• Assists with restraint under RN direction and CPI techniques.
• Demonstrates de-escalation techniques and sets limits for patients.
• Documents in accordance with standards and policies, and communicates effectively with the team.
• Answers calls professionally and directs messages as needed.
• Operates equipment safely and orients new patients to the unit.
• Participates in treatment team meetings and communicates with nurses, therapists, and physicians.
• Performs 15-minute observation rounds and documents appropriately.
• Assists with orientation of new staff and with therapeutic groups.
• Assists patients needing additional care related to medical needs and ensures post-procedure instructions are followed.
