Job summary

Atomic Machines Inc. in Emeryville, CA is seeking a Prototype Machinist to own precision parts from start to finish, including CAM programming, fixture design, and final verification.

This fast-paced R&D shop collaborates with engineers to turn complex designs into high-quality hardware and solve manufacturability challenges. You will work on 3- and 5-axis CNC mills and lathes, set up tooling, inspect with metrology tools, and help maintain a 24/7 operation on a 5-2 schedule.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience in high-precision environments.
• Strong programming, setup, proving out, and operation of CNC mills and lathes (3- & 5-axis).
• Reading complex prints with GD&T; ability to hold tight tolerances.
• CAM programming experience; Fusion 360 preferred, others acceptable.
• Fixture, soft jaws, and tooling design for prototypes.
• Multitask in a fast-paced shop and manage shifting priorities.
• On-site in Emeryville, CA; support a 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities

• Read drawings, CAD models, GD&T, and inspection requirements.
• Own parts from planning to delivery, including CAM setup and machining.
• Program, set up, prove out, and operate CNC mills and lathes.
• Develop CAM programs with Fusion 360 and similar tools.
• Design fixtures and tooling for prototype parts.
• Document setups, inspections, and process changes for repeatability.
• Maintain clean, safe shop and mentor junior staff.
