Job summary

Bexar County is seeking a Property Tax Processor I to handle payments, certificates, and tax computations under direct supervision. You will process mail, resolve routine issues, and help taxpayers set up payment arrangements while maintaining accurate records.

The role requires basic office experience, data entry accuracy, and the ability to work with diverse individuals. Candidates must pass background checks and a pre-employment physical/drug screen, with potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Graduation from High School or GED; and one year office cash collections experience, or equivalent education/experience.
• Knowledge of basic office procedures.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to communicate with diverse groups with tact and diplomacy; ability to operate a PC, 10-key, typewriter, and basic office equipment; ability to enter data accurately; handle hostile or irrational people; follow verbal instructions; establish positive working relationships.
• Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
• Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen.
• Must be able to maintain an effective attendance record and pattern.
• May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.

Responsibilities

• Processes and updates property tax payments received by mail and walk-in.
• Researches and resolves routine property tax and refund issues.
• Sorts, counts and logs daily mail.
• Prepares refund memos regarding overpayments of property taxes.
• Assists taxpayer in completing property tax payment arrangements and updates account information.
• Issues tax certificates to appropriate individuals.
• Calculates taxes, refunds, penalties and interest and costs.
• Maintains files such as tax payment arrangements, mortgage documents and refund checks.
• Performs related duties as required.
