Talent Edge Recruiting partners with a family-owned commercial real estate organization in the Chicago Western Suburbs. The Assistant Property Manager will handle day-to-day operations for eight retail properties, engaging tenants and vendors while supporting budgets and capital projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Assistant Property Manager who is ready to take the next step into a Property Manager role, or a Property Manager looking to join a growing, collaborative organization.

The Opportunity

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a portfolio of eight commercial properties, primarily retail shopping centers throughout the Chicago area.

This is a hands‑on position where you will be out at the properties, interacting with tenants and vendors, solving problems, overseeing projects, and making sure each property is operating at a high level.

What You'll Do

• Manage the day-to-day operations of an eight-property commercial portfolio
• Conduct regular property inspections and ensure each location is maintained to company standards
• Build, manage, and track annual operating and capital budgets
• Monitor expenses and identify opportunities to improve property performance
• Coordinate and oversee capital improvement projects from planning through completion
• Manage relationships with tenants and serve as a primary point of contact for property-related needs
• Source, negotiate with, and manage third‑party vendors and service providers
• Troubleshoot property issues and take ownership of problems through resolution
• Partner closely with accounting, leasing, marketing, and leadership teams
• Provide insight into tenant performance, property conditions, and opportunities across the portfolio
• Ensure properties remain compliant with applicable legal, regulatory, and environmental requirements
• Respond to occasional after‑hours property emergencies as needed

What We're Looking For

• 2–3+ years of commercial property management experience
• Open to an Assistant Property Manager ready to advance into a Property Manager position
• Retail or shopping center experience is strongly preferred
• Residential‑only property management backgrounds will not be considered
• Experience working with operating and/or capital budgets
• Strong vendor management and project coordination experience
• Confident problem solver who can independently assess issues and drive solutions
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
• Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple properties and competing priorities
• Comfortable utilizing technology, reporting tools, and data to manage properties effectively
• Must be comfortable regularly driving between properties throughout the Chicago market
