Job summary

Fernwood Property Management is seeking a Helper A to join our maintenance team in the Chicago area. The role focuses on diagnosing and repairing routine maintenance requests to maintain high resident satisfaction and property condition.

The Helper A performs electrical/plumbing repairs, appliance service, HVAC work, and carpentry tasks while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. Union training and on-call responsibilities are required.

Qualifications

• Customer service mindset and professionalism.
• At least 1 year of property maintenance experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read and use basic maintenance manuals and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and perform routine maintenance/repairs on apartments.
• Repair electrical and plumbing fixtures; rodding sewer lines.
• Repair appliances (microwave, dishwasher, stove, refrigerator).
• Work on HVAC domestic water systems; basic certifications may be required.
• Finish carpentry and hardware installation;おcomplete service requests on time.
• Organize and prioritize service requests and tasks.
• Make ready vacant apartments for rent promptly.
• Follow all safety policies and comply with laws including Fair Housing.
• Respond to on-call emergencies; overtime may be required.
