ABOUT HARRINGTON GROUP, INC.

Property Loss Control Engineer / Senior Property Loss Control Engineer

Remote (U.S. Based) Full-Time

ABOUT HARRINGTON GROUP, INC.

HGI is a leading fire protection engineering and consulting firm helping clients protect the assets that matter most to their businesses. We are looking for Property Loss Control Engineers/Consultants and Senior Property Loss Control Engineers/Consultants to bring technical expertise to high-profile client engagements, mentor a growing team, and empower our clients to proactively manage the risk of property damage and disrupted operations from perils such as fire and natural hazards. This job posting covers both our PLC Engineer/Consultant and Senior PLC Engineer/Consultant positions. The level and title you are hired into will be determined by your experience and licensure.

This is an opportunity to apply your depth in the physical sciences and risk management principles and build your engineering judgment as an independent advisor, helping clients protect complex, high-value commercial and industrial facilities and operations from loss. If you're a highly motivated engineer or consultant who thrives in a collaborative, remote-friendly environment, we want to hear from you.

ROLE HIGHLIGHTS

Technical Leadership & Client Advocacy: You will build trusted relationships with client personnel, from site-level staff through corporate risk management leadership. Leveraging your technical expertise and knowledge of Highly-Protected Risk ("HPR") property insurers, you will evaluate the analysis, risk-improvement recommendations, and Loss Expectancies ("LEs") presented by insurer property risk engineers and third-party consultants. You will develop alternative risk-reduction solutions grounded in sound engineering judgment and cost/benefit analysis and represent clients in discussions with insurers and other stakeholders.

Project Consulting & Plan Review: You will review project submittals and provide guidance on property protection based on nationally recognized standards, industry best practices, and internal property loss control standards, preparing written recommendations that address property risks from perils such as fire and natural hazards. You will also develop design specifications for fire protection systems and advise client project teams and their contractors and other consultants from pre-construction through commissioning.

Site Surveys & Client Training: You will conduct site surveys, fire hazard analyses, water supply evaluations, and property loss incident investigations, and support the development and delivery of client training on human element programs such as hot work management, impairment management, and fire protection system inspection, testing, and maintenance.

Mentorship & Professional Growth: You will work alongside senior and junior team members in a culture of technical mentorship. As your experience grows, you will provide guidance and field oversight to less experienced engineers and consultants while building the technical depth needed to take on increasing engagement responsibility over time.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to client personnel, from site-level staff through corporate risk management leadership, and manage client communications, priorities, and expectations for assigned engagements.
  • Evaluate insurer property loss control reports, recommendations, and Loss Expectancies ("LEs"), and advise on recommendation priority based on frequency, severity, and risk-reduction return on investment.
  • Develop alternative risk-reduction solutions with anticipated implementation costs, and negotiate their acceptance with property insurers and other stakeholders.
  • Provide client representation and advocacy during insurer property loss control surveys and discussions.
  • Review project submittals and technical reviews performed by others, and resolve recommendations addressing property risks from fire and natural hazards.
  • Establish and review design specifications for construction and fire protection systems for new or modified facilities.
  • Advise client project teams and their contractors from pre-construction through commissioning for commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Conduct site surveys, fire hazard analyses, water supply evaluations, and property loss incident investigations, including summary reports and lessons learned.
  • Develop and deliver client training on human element programs, such as hot work management, impairment management, and fire protection system inspection, testing, and maintenance.
  • Provide technical mentorship to less experienced PLC engineers and consultants, including field oversight and review of their work products, as your experience grows.
  • Assist with the development and documentation of processes, procedures, and service standards that advance the quality and efficiency of the PLC practice.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated ability to represent HGI's Core Values of Service, Competence, Quality, Honesty, Integrity, and Respect with clients, insurers, and authorities.
  • Ability to perform confidently and decisively, balancing adherence to standards with creative, impactful client solutions.
  • Sound engineering judgment and cost/benefit analysis skills to evaluate insurer recommendations and develop alternative risk-reduction solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage complex client engagements, including mentorship of less experienced engineers and consultants—required for Senior PLC Engineer/Consultant consideration, a plus at the PLC Engineer/Consultant level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging clients, insurers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction ("AHJs").
  • Ability to thrive in a remote work environment while maintaining strong client and team collaboration.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites, both domestic and international, averaging up to 25% overnight travel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering (Fire Protection, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, etc.).
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, including PLC engineering with a major industrial property insurance underwriter, "unbundled" property loss control services provider, or insurance brokerage firm serving Highly-Protected Risk ("HPR") clients; 8+ years with demonstrated engagement leadership is required for consideration at the Senior PLC Engineer/Consultant level.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or Engineer in Training ("EIT") status preferred; candidates with a P.E. license take the title Property Loss Control Engineer (or Senior Property Loss Control Engineer at the senior level); all other candidates take the title Property Loss Control Consultant (or Senior Property Loss Control Consultant at the senior level).
  • U.S. Citizen or valid work visa required
  • Strong technical foundation, with a focus on precision, sound engineering judgment, and client-focused execution.
