Job description

  • Manage an assigned caseload of complex property insurance claims
  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle complex property claims
  • Confirm and analyze coverage, recognize liability exposure, and negotiate equitable settlements in compliance with state regulations
  • Partner with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate complex claims resolution
  • Coordinate with external regulators and ensure appropriate documentation and compliance
  • Investigate claim damages using information from insureds, third parties, and external resources
  • Identify discrepancies and subrogation potential
  • Review prior loss history and create Special Investigation Unit referrals when appropriate
  • Analyze complex policy terms and contingencies to determine coverage
  • Determine and negotiate settlements within authority limits; collaborate with management on settlements outside authority limits
  • Maintain accurate and current claim-file documentation
  • Use estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools to prepare claims estimates
  • Support workload surges and catastrophe response operations, including on-call dates and evening, weekend, or holiday work
  • Travel for catastrophe deployments, claim resolution, training, and in-person inspections
  • Handle attorney-involved claims and address jurisdictional, legislative, and construction considerations
  • Work independently on complex problems and serve as a resource for less-experienced colleagues
  • Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks in accordance with compliance policies and procedures
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required
  • 2 years of relevant property claims adjusting experience involving moderate-complexity losses, including writing estimates and dwelling and structural damages
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating losses using Xactimate or similar tools and platforms
  • Proficient knowledge of residential construction
  • Proficient knowledge of property claims contracts and interpretation of case law and state laws and regulations
  • Proficient negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven investigatory, analytical, prioritizing, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel 50-75% of the year, locally and non-locally, and/or work catastrophe duty when needed
  • Acquisition and maintenance of an insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts
  • Currently reside within or have the ability to self-relocate to the Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina territory
  • Must meet USAA safe driving requirements, including MVR verification and possession of a valid driver's license
  • Ability to crouch and stoop to inspect confined spaces, including attics and crawl spaces
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds, including a ladder
  • Ability to climb ladders, traverse roofs, and work at heights while inspecting roofs and attics
