The Minnesota Daily is looking for perceptive student writers to fill our Projects & Investigative Reporter role. This position will allow you to use what you have learned about journalism to edit and report on meaningful stories.

Week 1: Brainstorm; Week 2: Pitch; Week 3: Check-in meeting; Week 4: Story one due; Brainstorm two due. Responsibilities include pitching 1,000–1,200 word stories tri-weekly, developing ideas weekly, maintaining source contacts, and working with editors to shape angles

Qualifications

  • Must be a University of Minnesota student.
  • Strong grammar and style conventions.
  • Willing to learn editing and fact-checking processes.
  • Ability to learn data visualization concepts through training.

Responsibilities

  • Pitches one 1,000–1,200 word story tri-weekly.
  • Develops story ideas weekly and maintains source contacts.
  • Works with editors to determine angles and sourcing.

Love long-term reporting that could require source relationships, DPAs, and holding the powerful accountable? Would you like to use your keen eye and want to advise other reporters’ stories?The Minnesota Daily is looking for perceptive student writers to fill our Projects & Investigative Reporter role.
