Job summary

The Minnesota Daily is seeking a part-time writer to cover campus news at the University of Minnesota. You’ll scout stories, develop ideas, and work with editors to shape angles.

Produce one to two pieces per week, with emphasis on fast-paced digital presentation, photos, and graphics, while meeting deadlines and engaging a campus audience.

This role welcomes students from all majors; pay is piece-rate with published rates, no guaranteed minimum, and no cap.

Qualifications

• Must be a University of Minnesota student.
• Success in a University writing-related class strongly advised.
• Strong interest in news, especially as it pertains to digital.
• Familiarity with the University of Minnesota campus preferred.
• Willing to cultivate a lively social media presence.
• Not required to be in the journalism school; open to all majors.
• Ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Produce between one and two pieces per period.
• Develops story ideas and maintains source contacts.
• Works closely with editors to determine angles and sourcing for stories.
• Must think creatively about news presentation (photos, graphics, etc.).
