Job summary

US Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a project management professional to apply comprehensive scheduling and cost control practices across multiple programs. You will develop status reports, briefings, and procedures to clearly communicate scope, schedule, and budget.

You will work with project managers and technical leads to sequence tasks, monitor performance, and drive corrective actions to protect schedules and costs.

Responsibilities

  • Apply a thorough working knowledge of study and project management principles, and understanding of the organizational structure and functions.
  • Develop reports, briefings, summary fact sheets, and procedures to communicate scope, schedule, and budget status.
  • Review project progress, measure performance, and suggest corrective actions to maintain schedule and cost.
  • Determine sequence, interdependencies, and durations of tasks with project managers and teams.
  • Apply analytical techniques to identify and resolve problems.
  • Use progress reports and baseline comparisons to identify cost/schedule variances.
  • Analyze project data in enterprise software to improve reporting and management processes.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, standardization, and cost/resource savings.
  • Assist users across departments with planning and implementing Project Management Business Processes.
  • Apply project management concepts including cost/scope/schedule controls and earned value management.
  • Monitor/manage projects and resources, including tracking costs and budgets.
  • Conduct training on project management scheduling systems.
  • Prepare oral and written briefings for senior managers to support scheduling inputs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, program analysts, technical managers, and chiefs to enter all projects into the tracking system.
  • Facilitate communication of scope, schedule, and budget status within the team and to senior review boards.

  • Through judgment and coordination with Project Managers and team members, determine sequence, interdependency, and starting or ending dates and duration of tasks.
  • Apply analytical and evaluative techniques to identify and resolve problems.
  • Use progress reports, baseline comparisons and other tools to identify performance variations in cost and schedule from the plan.
  • Analyze enterprise project management software data to more effectively manage and report project data and identify required changes needed to create consistent and efficient management processes.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, standardization, and cost and resource savings.
  • Assist system users across various departments regarding planning, preparing, and implementing Project Management Business Processes.
  • Apply project management concepts, including application of cost, scope and schedule controls and earned value management.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes1)formulating comprehensive master project schedules using enterprise-level project management software; 2)analyzing program schedule variances to identify critical path delays and execution risks; and 3) presenting project status and performance briefings to senior organizational leadership. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
