Job summary

AlphaX in California is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through installation and closeout. You will own budgets, schedules, field operations, subcontractor coordination, and client relationships.

The role requires strong leadership, precise cost control, and the ability to read drawings and specs. You will oversee RFIs, change orders, procurement, safety, and turnover, delivering projects on time,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of project management experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction.
• Experience managing budgets, schedules, RFIs, and change orders.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects from initial planning through installation and closeout.
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cost projections, and labor plans.
• Coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors for productivity, quality and safety.
• Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and equipment selections to address scope discrepancies.
• Manage RFIs, change orders, procurement activities, and project documentation.
• Monitor costs, labor hours, material expenses, and subcontractor costs, taking corrective action as needed.
• Maintain communication with general contractors, owners, engineers, inspectors, and internal teams.
• Coordinate permits, inspections, equipment deliveries, system startup, testing and commissioning.
• Oversee punch lists, warranty docs, turnover, and final closeout activities.
• Direct commercial HVAC or mechanical contracting experience is required.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through installation and final closeout. The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial mechanical contracting, with hands-on responsibility for project budgets, schedules, field operations, subcontractors, and client relationships.

This role is suited for a results-driven professional who can manage multiple aspects of project execution, resolve field challenges, control costs, and deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Responsibilities

• Manage commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects from initial planning and estimating handoff through installation, commissioning, and closeout.

• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cost projections, and labor plans to ensure timely and profitable project delivery.

• Coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to maintain productivity, quality, and jobsite safety.

• Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, and equipment selections to identify potential issues and address scope discrepancies.

• Manage RFIs, change orders, procurement activities, and project documentation throughout the construction process.

• Monitor job costs, labor hours, material expenses, and subcontractor costs, taking corrective action when projects fall outside budget.

• Maintain communication with general contractors, owners, engineers, inspectors, and internal project teams.

• Coordinate permits, inspections, equipment deliveries, system startup, testing, and commissioning.

• Oversee punch lists, warranty documentation, project turnover, and final closeout activities.

• 5+ years of project management experience in commercial HVAC, mechanical contracting, or commercial mechanical construction.

• Proven ability to independently manage commercial mechanical projects from preconstruction through completion.

• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, mechanical installations, construction drawings, specifications, and field operations.

• Experience managing project budgets, job costing, scheduling, RFIs, change orders, and subcontractor performance.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications and resolve technical issues.

• Experience working directly with general contractors, owners, engineers, and inspectors on commercial construction projects.

• Proficiency with construction project management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office.

• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Direct commercial HVAC or mechanical contracting experience is required. Residential-only HVAC experience will not qualify.
