Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and system integration.

A Project Engineer III plays a critical role in the design and delivery of robotic Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS). This position collaborates with cross-functional teams, suppliers, customers, and industry partners to ensure the successful implementation of warehouse automation solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the engineering design and technical execution of complex robotic ASRS projects and project scopes.
  • Develop, review, and approve technical documentation, including equipment specifications, system layouts, as-built drawings, installation documentation, operation manuals, and other engineering deliverables.
  • Lead the development and validation of complex robotic ASRS layouts and equipment arrangements.
  • Translate customer requirements, operational objectives, and project constraints into robust and scalable engineering solutions.
  • Establish technical approaches, design criteria, and engineering execution strategies for assigned projects.
  • Lead complex technical reviews and identify design, integration, installation, schedule, quality, and technical risks.
  • Serve as a senior technical point of contact for customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal project stakeholders.
  • Lead the resolution of complex technical inquiries, design conflicts, installation issues, and system integration challenges.
  • Provide technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, project management, operations, and other project disciplines.
  • Lead supplier technical coordination, including establishment of technical requirements, review of supplier deliverables, identification of non-conformances, and resolution of technical issues.
  • Lead or support complex site inspections, equipment verification, installation quality assessments, commissioning, testing, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Participate in and lead technical design reviews, project meetings, risk reviews, and other engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical direction during project execution and ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements, schedule, quality, and performance expectations.
  • Evaluate engineering changes and technical deviations and provide recommendations based on project requirements, technical risk, cost, schedule, and customer impact.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action for significant technical or installation issues.
  • Develop and communicate engineering solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customers and senior project leadership.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to Project Engineer I and Project Engineer II personnel.
  • Review engineering work products and provide constructive technical feedback to improve quality and consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize engineering solutions and reduce unnecessary customization while maintaining customer requirements.
  • Develop and improve engineering standards, processes, tools, templates, and best practices.
  • Capture and communicate project lessons learned and incorporate those lessons into future project execution.
  • Support the development of scalable engineering methodologies that improve project quality, execution efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Represent Hai Robotics as a senior technical engineering resource during customer and industry partner engagements.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Required Experience and Skills
  • 5+ years of progressive engineering experience, preferably in robotics, industrial automation, warehouse automation, material handling, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering activities for complex automation or material-handling projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and/or other 3D modeling software.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, review, and validate complex engineering drawings, layouts, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, equipment installation, engineering design principles, and system integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Experience coordinating technical requirements and resolving technical issues with suppliers, contractors, customers, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical design reviews, site inspections, testing, commissioning, and other project engineering activities.
  • Strong understanding of project execution and the ability to balance technical requirements, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and customer expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex engineering priorities and deliverables.
  • Strong technical communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, customers, suppliers, and senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to influence technical decisions across functional boundaries without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement engineering standards, processes, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with warehouse automation, robotics, ASRS, conveyor systems, WMS/WCS interfaces, or related technologies is strongly preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in both office and warehouse or customer-site environments.
  • Ability to safely access and inspect equipment installation areas and use standard measuring tools.
  • Travel up to 50%, primarily domestic, with some international travel as business needs require.
