Job summary

ABEC is seeking a Project Engineer to design bioprocess and clean utility systems for new and upgraded facilities. You will create P&IDs, GA drawings, BOMs, and perform sizing calculations while collaborating with customers to bring complex biopharmaceutical solutions to life.

You will support project execution from design through validation, participate in FAT and SAT testing, and work with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure successful delivery. Travel to customer sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Biological, or similar).
• 3+ years of engineering experience; 5+ preferred in biopharma, piping, or custom equipment.
• Experience supporting equipment manufacturing, testing, or automation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify bioprocess and clean utility systems for new and upgraded facilities.
• Create and review critical engineering documents (P&IDs, GA drawings, BOMs).
• Perform calculations for equipment sizing and system validation.
• Partner with designers to ensure equipment meets form, fit, and function expectations.
• Support Project Managers to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Track project scope, costs, and timelines; ensure nothing falls through the cracks.
• Act as a technical expert and customer point of contact throughout project lifecycle.
• Lead or support FAT and SAT (domestic & international).
• Develop test plans and collaborate with customers for approvals.
• Work closely with Manufacturing and Quality teams to bring designs to reality.
• Collaborate with Automation and Electrical teams on system functionality and communications.
• Review and approve documentation like FRS and DDS.
• Identify opportunities for CI and operational efficiency.

What You'll Do

Engineering & Design

• Design and specify bioprocess and clean utility systems for new and upgraded facilities
• Create and review critical engineering documents (P&IDs, GA drawings, BOMs)
• Perform calculations for equipment sizing and system validation

Project Execution & Collaboration

• Jump in to support project leadership when needed

Quality, Testing & Delivery

• Lead or support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)---both domestic & international
• Develop test plans and collaborate with customers for approvals
• Work closely with Manufacturing and Quality teams to bring designs to reality

Automation & Innovation

• Collaborate with Automation and Electrical teams on system functionality and communications
• Review and approve documentation like FRS and DDS
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement (CI) and operational efficiency

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Biological, or similar)
• 3+ years of engineering experience (5+ preferred in biopharma, piping, or custom equipment)
• Experience supporting equipment manufacturing, testing, or automation is a strong plus
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-driven environment
• Familiarity with Continuous Improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma is a bonus
