Job description

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Nursing (UMSON) program at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) in Rockville, Maryland is currently recruiting a part-time contractual (C1) Project Coordinator for the Maryland Nursing Workforce Center.

The Program Coordinator accomplishes responsibilities by applying specialized and theoretical knowledge, principles, and concepts of a professional discipline normally acquired through advanced education or specialized training. Resolve issues and significant matters on behalf of management by utilizing independent judgment, discretion, creativity, and analytical thinking. Contributes to development and evaluation of goals and objectives. Creates solutions to ensure legal and policy compliance. May independently manage or administer programs, processes, projects, or resources. Applies entry level knowledge, concepts, principles, and skills. Decision making occurs within defined parameters. Supervisor defines assignments, expectations, and deadlines. Supervisors may review work for quality. Demonstrates initiative and discretion to resolve routine and non-routine matters.

Primary Duties
  • Coordinate activities and functions of a designated program to ensure goals and objectives for specified program are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications.
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities of the program with interrelated activities of other programs, departments, or staff to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures and specifications.
  • Manage data collection, keep records of program activities: progress, status, and outcomes, and prepare reports for management.
  • Recruit program participants, members and volunteers utilizing the most appropriate promotional or marketing methods, such as individual letters, brochures, or presentations.
  • Assists in the preparation of proposals for funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors.
  • Interact and maintain liaison with students, faculty, staff and outside/community agencies in facilitating program objectives. Build and maintain strong relationships with community members and partners in order to grow programming.
  • Schedule, market, and promote events of the program by independently developing promotional marketing materials and event plans.
  • May coordinate, monitor or supervise the activities of work study students, volunteers, and contractual employees.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

UMB is a public university and constituent institution of the University System of Maryland. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience: One (1) year administrative or program coordination experience.
  • Supervisory Experience: N/A
  • Certification/Licensure: N/A
  • Other: Related experience to program may be substituted for education. Knowledge of healthcare is preferred. Must be proficient with using Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, and survey software (Qualtrics, Survey Monkey).
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • General knowledge of and skill in the practical application of generally accepted office practices and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to proofread and edit written documents. Skill in various computer software packages, such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation programs, Internet, email and calendaring software. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to interact effectively with internal and external parties in a courteous and efficient manner. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple and continuing assignments with general instructions.
