The candidate will oversee cash management, budgeting, and audit support while maintaining timely financial statements and compliance across multiple real estate projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum six months of accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and project accounting.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency including Excel, Word, Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Process journal entries and reconcile general and project cost ledgers per GAAP.
  • Oversee project cash accounts and cash position; resolve reconciliation issues.
  • Record real estate revenue and cost of sales; prepare checks for deposit.
  • Meet accounting deadlines for processing, reporting and funding.
  • Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit requests.
  • Coordinate project budgets and maintain budget archives.
  • Produce periodic financial reports with variance explanations.
  • Resolve discrepancies and improve internal controls.

Job description

Atrium is seeking on behalf of our client a Project Accountant based in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Position: Project Accountant

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: $65-75k

Position Overview

The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing financial processes and reporting for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies. This role involves close collaboration with project managers and internal teams to maintain accurate financial records, oversee cash management, and support audits. The position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Process journal entries, maintain, and reconcile the general and job cost ledgers in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversee respective project cash accounts and cash position, addressing cash bank reconciliation issues
  • Record real estate revenue and cost of sales and prepare checks for deposit by Accounting Administrator
  • Adhere to accounting deadlines for processing, reporting, and funding
  • Assist with financial audit preparation and respond to audit requests
  • Coordinate budget process for respective projects, upload into accounting system, and maintain budget file archives
  • Produce periodic financial reports with variance explanations and supporting analytics
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and operating division personnel to provide accounting guidance and support
  • Oversee payables for respective projects processed through corporate AP and control timing of check disbursements
  • Process annual real estate tax and tangible personal property tax filings and payments
  • Oversee annual corporate registration filings
  • Process semi-monthly construction cost recovery transactions for projects with homebuilding construction
  • Oversee the bank loan funding process for financing facilities on respective projects by coordinating with Loan Accountant

Required Experience/Skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills for internal and external interactions
  • Strong knowledge and ability to produce and maintain accurate financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to lead teams effectively and demonstrate initiative
  • Strong customer service orientation with timely response to internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • Experience in real estate or construction accounting environments
  • Familiarity with job cost accounting systems and processes
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and its application in project-based accounting
  • Ability to identify process improvements and enhance internal controls
  • Prior experience supporting audits and compliance initiatives

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum of six months of related accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Internet research tools
  • Knowledge of GAAP and ability to apply accounting principles accurately
  • Additional certifications (CPA or CMA) are a plus but not required
