Job description

Programming and Event CoordinatorFull Time | In Person | Eugene, Oregon

About Temple Beth Israel

Temple Beth Israel (TBI) is a vibrant center for Jewish life in Eugene, Oregon. We are committed to lifelong learning, cultural engagement, and community connection. Our programming spans Jewish holidays, educational offerings, social justice initiatives, cultural events, and community celebrations. We welcome individuals and families of all backgrounds to explore and celebrate Jewish tradition with us.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and creative Programming and Event Coordinator to join our team. This full-time role is responsible for the planning, logistics, marketing, and volunteer coordination for a wide range of programs and events. You’ll work collaboratively with clergy, staff, lay leaders, committees, and volunteers to bring programs to life that reflect our values of inclusivity, learning, justice, and tradition.

This is a great opportunity to do meaningful work in a mission-driven environment where creativity, initiative, and collaboration are valued. While the position typically operates during weekday hours, flexible scheduling is needed to support occasional evening and weekend events. The coordinator will work as part of a dedicated team, with support from staff, clergy, volunteers, and a graphic designer to help promote and execute events.

Key Responsibilities

Program and Event Coordination

  • Plan and support a wide range of programs for all ages—holiday celebrations, concerts, lectures, fundraisers, and more
  • Collaborate with clergy, staff, and volunteers to develop and manage a comprehensive programming calendar
  • Coordinate with guest speakers, performers, and educators
  • Oversee event logistics, including space booking, catering, setup/teardown, supplies, and tech needs
  • Create production timelines and event-day coordination plans

Marketing and Outreach

  • Draft event descriptions and updates for newsletters, email, and the website
  • Collaborate with a graphic designer to develop promotional materials
  • Help implement strategies to boost visibility and attendance

Volunteer Engagement

  • Recruit and support volunteers for event-related needs
  • Act as liaison among volunteers, committees, and staff

Community Presence

  • Be a welcoming face at events and a helpful voice by phone and email
  • Support inclusive and accessible programming that reflects TBI’s values

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of major Jewish holidays and customs is important for success in this role. Candidates should have a foundational understanding of the Jewish calendar, or a strong willingness and demonstrated ability to learn quickly
  • Experience coordinating events or programs (2 or more years preferred)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Comfort with basic tech tools: Zoom, Google Workspace, Canva, and email marketing platforms
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds for event setup and supplies

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $48,000 to $58,000 annually, depending on experience
  • Health insurance, vacation and sick time, and secular holidays off
  • Jewish holidays are generally offered as time off; however, due to the nature of this role, the coordinator will be expected to work on some Jewish holidays to support programs and events
  • Professional development opportunities
  • A collaborative, mission-driven work environment
