The Earth Data Analysis Center (EDAC) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) has a full-time Programmer Analyst 3 Position opening on the Albuquerque Main Campus. EDAC was established at UNM in 1965 to transfer NASA spaced-based technology to the private and public sectors. As a center of expertise in geospatial technology and information technology, EDAC’s mission is to serve federal, state, local, and tribal government agencies, research institutes, professional societies and organizations, and the private sector by leveraging geospatial technologies and information technologies to address their needs and challenges.
The Programmer Analyst 3 will be under limited supervision, providing professional level support in advanced geospatial technologies and research, with an emphasis on GIS and spatial analysis and modeling. This position requires a strong understanding of geospatial applications and programming, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively. Responsibilities include seeking and responding to funding opportunities, project scoping, prototyping, plan development, and conducting geospatial/programming feasibility studies. Manages and oversees EDAC’s Geospatial Program, which comprises developing integrated project management plans, budgeting, and risk assessment for complex long-term projects, as well as medium- and small-scale projects, including implementation schedules and resource estimates. Ability to lead the design, development, and implementation of geospatial research, applications, and products to fulfill grant and contract requirements. In addition, this position will assist EDAC’s IT staff in designing and developing integrated systems, applications, and automated workflows. This position requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced supportive environment, have attention to detail, and possess a broad range of GIS management, programming, and geospatial research skills. It also requires vision and leadership to further advance EDAC’s Geospatial Program.
EDAC’s Geospatial Program works across diverse systems, utilizing GIS, drones, remote sensing, image processing, web applications/services, and related programming to serve a wide range of clients. This work involves geospatial data acquisition, processing, mapping, analysis, and programming. EDAC primarily uses ESRI products in the development of specific client driven solutions.

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.
