Texas State University in San Marcos seeks a standing Program Director for Health & Well-Being to lead strategic coordination of division-wide health initiatives and oversee Health Promotions Services and related teams.

You will partner with campus and community stakeholders to integrate well-being into planning, policies, and programming, driving data-informed improvements across the university.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, health promotion, health education, higher education, student affairs, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in health promotion, public health, student affairs, well-being initiatives, or a related field.
  • Experience in strategic planning, program development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders and leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ability to analyze data and assessment results to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required, including on-call responsibilities during high-visibility events or urgent situations.

Responsibilities

  • Inform division-wide priorities that advance student success and align with institutional goals.
  • Guide Texas State’s efforts to become a health-promoting campus and advocate for health and well-being in university planning and decision-making.
  • Serve on the Division of Student Success Health & Well-Being Steering Committee and track targeted strategic initiatives and special projects assigned by the AVP.
  • Assist with coordinating Health and Well-Being mass-communication efforts across education, access, outreach, and treatment to increase student knowledge and access to services.
  • Support the TXST Health & Well-Being campaign to promote programs and services to students and stakeholders.
  • Work with campus partners to integrate health-promoting principles and consistent messaging across programs, services, and policies.
  • Provide oversight and supervisory guidance for the Health Promotion Services and Marketing and Communications teams.
  • Coordinate work across the Health & Well-Being portfolio and guide improvements in program effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, evaluate initiatives, and recommend adjustments based on results.
  • Translate data into dashboards and executive reports that inform priorities and demonstrate impact.
  • Build strategic campus and community partnerships to advance health and well-being goals.
  • Coordinate the Texas State Coordinated Community Response Team and participate in university committees.
  • Represent the AVP on leadership groups and drive strategic projects as assigned.
  • Support campus emergency preparedness and response and participate in drills and after-action reviews.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Success and Dean of Students, who oversees the Health & Well-Being portfolio, the Health & Well-Being Program Director works with the Associate Vice President to support the strategic coordination and oversight of division-wide health and well-being efforts that advance student success. The Program Director assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of university-wide health and well-being initiatives aligned with divisional and institutional goals. The Program Director oversees Texas State’s Health Promotions Services office, the Health & Well-Being Marketing and Promotions Coordinator, and coordinates the Texas State Coordinated Community Response Team. The Program Director serves on the Division of Student Success Health & Well-Being Steering Committee and works with campus and community partners to integrate health and well-being principles into programs, services, policies, and university planning and decision-making. The Program Director supports the assessment, design, and evaluation of high-priority, system-wide initiatives addressing the social, health, well-being, and behavioral determinants of health. The Program Director represents the Associate Vice President on designated leadership groups and leads strategic projects as assigned. Across these responsibilities, the position advances a coordinated, evidence-informed approach to health and well-being that supports students and strengthens the university’s capacity to serve them.

Job Duties:
Health & Well-Being Strategy
  • Inform division-wide priorities that advance student success and align with institutional goals.

  • Support the execution of the TXST Health & Well-Being campaign to promote new and existing programs and services to students and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with campus partners to integrate health-promoting principles and consistent messaging across programs, services, and policies.
Leadership and Coordination
  • Provide oversight and supervisory guidance for the Health Promotion Services and Marketing and Communications teams.
  • Coordinate work across the Health & Well-Being portfolio and guide improvements in program effectiveness, operational efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators, evaluate ongoing initiatives, and recommend adjustments based on results.
  • Translate data into dashboards, executive reports, and insights that inform priorities and demonstrate impact.
Partnerships and Coordinated Response
  • Work to build strategic campus and community partnerships that advance shared health and well-being goals.
  • Coordinate the Texas State Coordinated Community Response Team and participate in relevant university committees.
  • Represent the Associate Vice President on designated university and community leadership groups.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Support Division of Student Success responsibilities related to campus emergency preparedness and response, particularly when incidents involve students, expressive activity, or large campus events.
  • Participate in coordinated university response efforts and assist with implementing established communication, documentation, escalation, and after-hours response protocols.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness exercises, after-action reviews, and improvement planning relevant to the position’s responsibilities.
Other Duties
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Student Success and Dean of Students to support the broader goals of the Division of Student Success and contribute to the continued success of the university.
  • May require evening and weekend availability, including on-call responsibilities during high-visibility events or urgent situations
