Job description

Position Summary:

The Program Director plays a critical role in the cradle-through-college and careers mission of Children's Aid Community Schools by ensuring high-quality expanding learning time opportunities are provided for kindergarten through fifth grade youth during out-of-school time at CS211 at the Whitney Young Jr. Campus. The Program Director reports directly to the Community School Director and collaborates with the Parent Engagement Coordinator, Social Worker, Youth Advocates, Teachers, and other site-based staff. The role involves strategic planning of youth activities and family engagement, staff coaching, monitoring academic and social-emotional growth, working with community partners, and using data to inform program decisions.

Essential Duties:

  1. Oversee all aspects of the CBO's DYCD COMPASS Program at the Community School.
  2. Lead efforts to maintain and expand community partnerships for the COMPASS Program.
  3. Create effective communication structures between programs, including with DOE staff and internal departments.
  4. Collaborate with Community School Directors to develop programs aligned with community needs and goals.
  5. Establish program goals and outcome measures to evaluate success.
  6. Ensure all paperwork for funders is completed, including attendance, enrollment data, reports, and outcomes, and provide reports for internal and administrative use.
  7. Model appropriate child, youth, and adult development practices and handle behavior concerns as needed.
  8. Lead recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of all staff employed through the program.
  9. Facilitate required meetings, including weekly staff meetings.
  10. Manage program budgets and work with relevant staff to track expenses and reports.
  11. Support oversight of contractual partnerships with other organizations and agencies.
  12. Build and maintain strategic partnerships with community groups, school administrators, public officials, funders, parents, and stakeholders.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Community School Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED required.
  2. Commitment to working with underserved youth, especially middle-school-aged youth.
  3. At least 5 years of full-time experience working with youth in a high-stress environment.
  4. Minimum of 2 years in a managerial role; experience with DYCD or Out of School Time programming preferred.
  5. Experience in strategic program planning and development.

Key Competencies:

  1. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and proficiency with data-driven program management.
  2. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  3. Enthusiasm, creativity, initiative, humor, and a sense of urgency.
