About Sustain Dane: Sustain Dane, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit. Sustain Dane’s vision is a thriving and connected community with a sustainable environment and economy we are proud to pass on to future generations. Sustain Dane’s work supports organizations and individuals learn, connect, and take action for sustainability. Our office is at the StartingBlock in Madison, WI. The team works in a hybrid model with a combination of in-person and virtual days each week.

Job Description: This role will support coordination and implementation of Sustain Dane’s programs across various topics of sustainability. You will develop partnerships and collaborate with businesses, schools, municipalities and nonprofit organizations. Work will also include crafting public-facing messaging that uplifts program impact and participant stories. The role includes community/public presentations and enjoyment of building relationships. In this position, you’ll work with the Sustain Dane staff team and Board of Directors, as well as be able to execute projects and strategies independently.

  • Passion for sustainability, continual learning, teaching others, and reaching goals.
  • Organization and attention to detail - ability to prioritize tasks & meet deadlines.
  • Enjoyment of presenting to a community/public audience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with program/event production, public speaking, Eventbrite/Mailchimp, and other database management or technology is recommended.
  • Authentic, inclusive and open-minded professional who is comfortable working with people of all backgrounds and identities.
  • Accountable, works efficiently with task management, follow-through and the ability to work independently.
  • Enjoys working with a dynamic team.

Job Duties will Include:

Program Planning & Coordination 50%

  • Plan and execute educational programs/events around various sustainability topics
  • Set up Eventbrite registration pages with details including event description, location & access information, data collection, and outreach
  • Coordinate logistics for day-of program implementation
  • Liaise with speakers, venues, and exhibitors as needed
  • Collaborate with external organizations, municipalities, and grant funders to ensure program success
  • Coordinate tabling at external partner programs
  • Assist Sustain Dane team with brainstorming program topics and design
  • Use data and impact evaluation tools to ensure continuous improvement of programs

Communication – 25%

  • Communicate positively and effectively with the Sustain Dane community to strengthen relationships and provide high-quality customer service
  • Craft public-facing messaging that uplifts program impact and participant stories
  • Give public remarks or presentations to a variety of audiences
  • Attend community meetings, member/partner gatherings, and other networking events
  • Promote and publicize program activities
  • Design engaging event materials for online and physical use using Canva
  • Support facilitation of and participate in program and ambassador workgroups

Schools and Youth – 15%

  • Manage and oversee school sustainability programs including composting, carton recycling, and share tables at local schools
  • Collaborate with school district staff to ensure program success and sustainability
  • Work with students and young people to increase school sustainability efforts
  • Support coordination of the Powerful Teen Leader youth employment program

Other duties – 10%

  • Input donations/payments into Little Green Light and Wild Apricot software programs
  • Implement website updates using Wordpress software
  • Support other work areas at Sustain Dane that align with your interests and skills
