Job summary

PBS in the United States is seeking a Program Associate to support the General Audience content teams, reviewing and screening multi-platform content to ensure PBS standards and compliance. The role involves collaboration with Programming, Standards & Practices, and related teams to maintain compliance across genres.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Review, screen and evaluate content for PBS Standards and Compliance.
  • Collaborate with Programming, Standards & Practices and related teams to ensure compliance.
  • Create and distribute station-facing reports with program timings and content details.
  • Assess sensitive content and suggest revisions to program ratings as needed.
  • Support department projects and special assignments as required.

Position Overview:

The Program Associate supports the PBS General Audience content teams, that includes the PBS National Program Service and all Syndicated Services across genres from Dramas to Investigative Reports, History, Climate, Arts and Culture, Science, Nature themed programs, among others as well as Independent films, by reviewing, screening and evaluating multi-platform content prior to distribution to ensure adherence to PBS standards, practices and all compliance related issues.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Review, Screen and Evaluate content for PBS Standards and Compliance
  • Collaborate with Programming, Standards & Practices and related teams to attain compliance
  • Create and distribute station-facing reports that include program timings and content information
  • Assess sensitive content and recommend revisions to the program ratings as relevant
  • Support Manager, Programming & Operations in department project needs, special projects and as needed
Requirements for success:
  • 1+ years of experience in administration or production in the media industry; television broadcasting and/or film production; or journalism; related writing or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Familiarity with PBS operations and procedures is preferred
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Good program judgment
  • Excellent writing skills
  • General knowledge of public broadcasting community

  • Background or interest in television programming
Salary and Compensation

The base pay range for this position at the beginning of employment is expected to be between $23/hour to $25/hour. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
