HOURLY RATE: $18.00 - 22.00 per hour (based on relevant experience)

SUMMARY

Provides support to the Athletics Department and its personnel by providing assistance to the Recreation Coordinators in regard to sports programming and coach recruiting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Recruitment of coaches for all youth sport programming.
  • Assists internal and external customers with information, directions, problem resolution.
  • Research trends in sports programming and recreation.
  • Collaborates with other city departments.
  • Performs data entry and may maintain databases and/or spreadsheets for the department.
  • Performs administrative, general clerical, filing, and special projects as assigned.
  • Participate as a member of a department collaborative team.
  • May assist in the support of other hourly employees.
  • May require some evening and weekend availability.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • General understanding of various sports and coaching techniques
  • Ability to use spreadsheet, publishing, database and word processing software.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment operations.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Specific knowledge of department related city ordinances, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Specific knowledge of the services and programming offered by the department.
  • Ability to respond effectively to difficult or stressful situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Minimum of two years related customer service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies and procedures, safety and technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • May require current First Aid certification.
  • May require current CPR certification.
  • May require notary public certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The demands on the visual sense may be very high. The employee may frequently be required to walk and reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal office environment with moderate noise levels. The employee may on occasion be exposed to cold and humid environmental conditions.
