Job summary

City of Fort Collins is seeking a Track Coach (Distance Coach) to supervise youth running practices during the week and meets on weekends at Foothills Activity Center. This position is a part-time hourly role with non-exempt status and a $15.00–$18.00 per hour wage based on experience.

Under the Recreation Coordinator, the coach will create a safe, positive environment and follow all city guidelines. Weekend/evening hours may be required, with emergency or additional duties as needed.

Summary: Underthe supervision of the Recreation Coordinator of youth or adult sports, the youth sport track coach will supervise a variety of youth running practices during the week and meets on the weekends. They will help to establish and maintain a safe, positive, and fun sports environment for all participants. They will follow all City and Department guidelines, procedures, and policies. Weekend, holiday, and evening hours scheduled as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision of various youth running activities for the Recreation Department.
  • Provides program set-up and tear-down for fields as scheduled.
  • Ensures all facilities and playing surfaces are in safe and operable condition.
  • Maintains discipline and responds professionally to comments or concerns from the public.
  • Enforces and/or recommends changes to policies and procedures for assigned programs.
  • Handles emergency or crisis situations. May be required to perform emergency care.
  • Provides exceptional customer service in person and over the phone or via email.
  • Communicates with the recreation coordinator on events or situations that require immediate attention.
  • Maintains accurate accident and incident reports.
  • Complies with City and Departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: position is notresponsible for the supervision of employees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of youth and adult sport programs operations.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with co-workers, and the public.
  • Communicates effectively in both oral and written with external and internal customers.
  • Ability to show sensitivity in dealing with all age, persons with disabilities, and a diverse population.
  • Ability to understand and apply department procedures and policies.
  • Ability to handle sensitive stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Flexibility inability to work varying shifts is desirable, particularly regarding holiday shift availability.

Education and Experience: Minimum age is 18 and previous sports experience.

Language Skills: Read instructions and communicate with City supervisor and the general. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions supervisor, groups of clients, customers, and the general public. Bilingual capabilities in Spanish and English desirable but not mandatory.

Reasoning Ability: solve and implement practical solutions to problems. Ability to interpret of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. And initiate proactive measures to insure program quality, customer and facility integrity.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Current driver's license
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required or ability to obtain certifications within 60 days of hire
