Creative Arts instructors will enjoy spending time with community members across the lifespan, creating a positive and supportive learning environment, and demonstrating a passion to teach community members.
This is a part-time, fluctuating hourly position that plans for and teaches classes year-round. Program hours vary depending on instructor schedule. Evening and weekend availability required.
This position is not responsible for the direct supervision of any City employees. Experienced instructors may assist the Recreation Coordinator with supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable law which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. This position may also supervise volunteers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to crawl, kneel, jump, run, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must have the ability to lift from the ground up to 60 lbs. The employee must be capable of leading participants in extended periods of exercise and movement and be able to actively participate in scheduled activities alongside participants in both an indoor and outdoor environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to various weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, hail, and heat. The employee may be exposed to allergy causing conditions (i.e., cottonwood, dust, animals, etc.). The employee may be exposed to a variety of childhood illnesses. The noise level in the work environment can be at high extremes at times.
The employee must be able to work effectively in an environment with a variety of emotional states of scheduled participants which can vary from youth to adult. The employee must possess high tolerance for the characteristic behavior of participant ages in indoor and outdoor recreation settings and work effectively in high energy, chaotic, or disruptive situations. The employee should be flexible with the demands and interests of participant ages.
