Job description

Join to apply for the Professional Civil Engineer role at City of Knoxville.

PAY GRADE RANGE: $77,950 - $101,335 annually (Pay Grade 321).

Responsibilities:

1. Review and approve engineering proposals, plans, specifications, etc.
2. Attend meetings and assist the Director and Deputy Director with administrative duties as directed.
3. Perform complex design tasks including preparing plans, specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates for municipal projects such as roadway, drainage, bridge, or general site planning.
4. Handle city-wide planning for engineering concerns like drainage, floodplain management, erosion control, right-of-way management, utility coordination, street lighting, and water quality programs.
5. Administer construction and maintenance contracts through inspections, specifications interpretation, field adjustments, and project coordination.
6. Supervise professional and technical staff in completing plans, specifications, survey data collection, and inspections.
7. Review plans for compliance with legal and engineering standards.
8. Respond to citizen inquiries regarding projects or public works issues.
9. Conduct detailed engineering computations in hydrology, hydraulics, surveying, and structures.
10. Supervise drafters, technicians, and survey crews.
11. Provide training to employees, community members, contractors, and engineers.
12. Represent the department at neighborhood meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Valid Tennessee Driver's License or ability to obtain one.
• Registered Professional Engineer’s License issued by the Tennessee State Board or an equivalent state board, with the ability to obtain Tennessee licensure if licensed elsewhere.
