POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL seeks an Environmental Engineer II / Civil Engineer II to support our Boston, Massachusetts Service Center. The Civil/Environmental Engineer will provide civil/environmental engineering, remediation, and construction services to federal and state agencies, including the EPA, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Defense, and U.S. Department of Energy.

This role offers the flexibility to work remotely within the Boston/New England area. Candidates must reside in (or be willing to relocate to) EPA Region 1 states (CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT). Some on-site fieldwork in New England is required.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Executing and evaluating environmental remediation and construction field tasks, including work plan preparation and remedial design support.
  • Operating and maintaining treatment plants.
  • Collecting environmental samples and data.
  • Reviewing, interpreting, and applying environmental regulations.
  • Analyzing data, performing calculations, and interpreting field and analytical data.
  • Preparing technical proposals and cost estimates.
  • Managing project schedules and budgets.
  • Interacting with clients and supervising field crews.
  • Implementing data quality control processes.
  • Reviewing and authoring technical reports.

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Geologic Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in environmental remediation, technical report writing, and data interpretation.
  • Remedial system design support and operation experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated responsibility, innovation, motivation, and creativity.
  • Strong project management, organizational, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of sampling methodologies at CERCLA and RCRA sites.
  • Strong data analysis skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Project.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification (must be obtained upon employment).
  • Ability to travel, work overtime, and perform moderate physical tasks.

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT (not required)

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with DoD, DoE, or EPA projects under RCRA or CERCLA.
  • AutoCAD skills.

Salary Range: $63,600 - $104,939. Final salary depends on various factors including location, education, experience, and skills. Feel free to apply if your desired salary is outside this range; other positions may better match your expectations.
