Role Overview

The Provider Practice Coding Consultant plays a vital role in medical coding. Responsibilities include providing consulting services, educational support, and guiding healthcare professionals on improved coding practices. You will collaborate with clients and healthcare leaders to meet and exceed expectations, identify solutions, and ensure compliance. This role is pivotal in elevating coding quality and optimizing outcomes in hospitals and care settings.

Responsibilities

1. Review medical records and assign accurate codes (CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10 procedures, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS).
2. Conduct data quality reviews to assess compliance with coding and documentation guidelines.
3. Communicate professionally with colleagues, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement issues.
4. Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
5. Identify documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues.
6. Use VPN access to complete tasks productively and flexibly.
7. Uphold Datavant and HIM Division policies, promoting compliance and operational efficiency.
8. Maintain professional expertise through continuing education credits.
9. Attend mandatory in-service and educational meetings to stay aligned with industry best practices.
10. Adhere to the AHIMA code of ethics, maintaining professional standards and integrity.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of coding experience.
• AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, CRC) certification.
• Strong communication skills, remote work experience, and excellent time management.
• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
• Ability to pass annual HIPAA exams and other testing.
