The Provider Practice Coding Consultant role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in medical coding. You will provide essential consulting services and educational support, guiding healthcare professionals on improved coding practices. Collaborating with clients and healthcare leaders, you'll identify and propose solutions, exceeding customer expectations, and playing a pivotal role in elevating coding quality, ensuring compliance, and optimizing service outcomes in hospitals and alternative care settings.

What You Will Do

• Review medical records and assign accurate codes (CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10 procedures, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS) aligned with client needs.
• Conduct data quality reviews to assess compliance with official coding and documentation guidelines.
• Communicate professionally with co-workers, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Identify documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues.
• Use VPN access to complete tasks productively and flexibly.
• Uphold Datavant and HIM Division policies, promoting compliance and operational efficiency.
• Track continuing education credits to maintain professional expertise.
• Attend mandatory in-service and educational meetings for continual industry best practice updates.
• Adhere to the American Health Information Management Association's code of ethics, maintaining professional standards and integrity.

What You Need To Succeed

• At least 1 year of coding experience.
• AHIMA credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC credentials (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, CRC).
• Strong communication skills, remote work capability, and excellent time management.
• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
• Ability to pass annual HIPAA and other testing requirements.
