Job summary

BCforward is seeking a Production Support / Application Support Engineer for a 16-month contract in Charlotte, NC. You will own incident management and bridge calls, drive issue resolution, and coordinate releases across applications, teams, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities include monitoring with Splunk, Datadog, New Relic, and other APMs, plus troubleshooting, capacity planning, and policy development. This role requires 5+ years in Java/Linux environments and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Java development or production support, performance testing, or a related technical environment.
• 5+ years of experience working in a Linux environment.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog, or New Relic.

• Own problem and incident management, including creation and management of tickets and communications with development and business stakeholders.
• Lead triage and bridge calls, document actions and outcomes, and drive timely resolution of production issues.
• Manage release and deployment activities and ensure operational readiness for new and existing applications.
• Monitor application health and performance using tools such as Splunk, Datadog, New Relic, AppDynamics, Introscope, or Dynatrace.
• Analyze service metrics and reporting to identify vulnerabilities and opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Develop and enhance administrative, operational, and technical policies and procedures aligned to best practices.
• Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and remediation using advanced querying and programming skills.
• Support capacity and availability management to maintain reliable services.
• Consult with end users to determine optimal configurations of equipment and applications.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to peers and act as an escalation point for moderately complex issues.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years in Java development or production support, performance testing, or a related technical environment.
• 5+ years of experience working in a Linux environment.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog, or New Relic.
• Experience with one or more APM solutions: AppDynamics, Introscope, or Dynatrace.
• Scripting proficiency in Bash and/or PowerShell.
• Proven debugging and troubleshooting skills with ability to analyze logs, metrics, and traces.
• Strong organization, documentation, and communication skills; able to run triage meetings and produce clear notes.
• Ability to multitask and adapt to a dynamic production support environment, including after-hours and weekend support as needed.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with performance engineering analysis using Dynatrace.
• Background in change and configuration management, production governance, and service analytics.
