Job Summary
The Production Supervisor will manage the day-to-day packaging functions of the shift, leading the activities of employees engaged in the operation and support of a variety of production lines and systems. Responsible for monitoring progress to the production schedule and ensuring accurate reporting of employee safety, quality, department efficiency, labor utilization, materials, and related production standards, all of which are monitored and reported daily. Responsibilities include working towards the achievement of company goals and objectives by ensuring company procedures and policies are followed related to labor regulations, OSHA/EPA Compliance, State, and local laws and ordinances relevant to the operation, staff, and food safety.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide strong leadership and supervision to the production team, including machine operators and technicians. Develop and maintain a high-performance culture that fosters teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate plant operations to meet production goals and customer deadlines.
- Ensure that all production processes run smoothly and efficiently, minimizing downtime, and optimizing resource utilization.
- Implement and enforce strict quality control standards to maintain product quality and consistency.
- Conduct regular inspections and quality checks to ensure that products meet customer specifications.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of production equipment, ensuring machines are in optimal working condition. Coordinate with maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime.
- Train, mentor, and develop plant personnel, enhancing their skills and competencies.
- Provide ongoing feedback and conduct performance evaluations.
- Promote and enforce strict safety protocols and compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies. Investigate and report accidents or incidents, taking corrective actions as needed.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction while maintaining product quality.
- Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Manage inventory of production materials and supplies, ensuring they are well-stocked and used efficiently. Collaborate with procurement and logistics teams to optimize material flow.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to production and quality control.
- Prepare regular reports on production performance and KPIs.
Skills and Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of flexible packaging processes, equipment, and technologies in the printing and converting industry.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on mentoring and development.
- Proficiency in implementing and monitoring quality control procedures and ensuring that products meet customer specifications.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
- Experience in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Skill in planning and scheduling production operations to meet production goals and customer deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills to convey instructions, report findings, and interact effectively with employees and other departments.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Operations Management) is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role in the printing and converting industry.
- Experience in manufacturing, printing, distribution, and/or packaging is a plus.
- Knowledge of safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move about the facility for extended periods.
- Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Visual acuity to inspect products and read technical documents.
- Physical dexterity for operating and maintaining production equipment.
- Ishihara machine eye exam for perfect color vision.
