Job description

Job Title: Production Operator

Job Description

This role focuses on operating and maintaining precision grinding equipment used to manufacture high-quality metal wires for demanding applications in medical, aerospace, automotive, and other industries. You will work on the bar side of production, setting up and running grinding lines, monitoring processes, and supporting additional equipment on the shop floor to ensure consistent quality and throughput.


Responsibilities


  • Set up, operate, and monitor two grinding machines (Grinding Line 1 and Grinding Line 2) on the bar side of production.

  • Retrieve raw materials from the staging area and prepare them for processing.

  • Move product on and off the production line safely and efficiently.

  • Shadow and learn from a skilled operator to gain full proficiency in machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting.

  • Assist with operating and supporting other production processes, including furnace and ultrasonic (UT) lines.

  • Maintain expected production rates by keeping machines and lines running smoothly throughout the shift.

  • Continuously monitor machine performance and product quality, making adjustments as needed to maintain specifications.

  • Troubleshoot process issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.

  • Identify equipment issues and either perform basic repairs or promptly report problems for further maintenance.

  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including cleaning, basic mechanical adjustments, and inspections.

  • Work closely with the lead operator and other team members to coordinate workflow and support overall production goals.

  • Follow all safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area.

  • Document production activities as required and communicate any issues or concerns to supervision in a timely manner.


Essential Skills


  • Proven experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues using various hand and power tools.

  • Ability to set up, run, and monitor a production line while understanding how the machine is functioning.

  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform basic math for measurements and adjustments.

  • Experience with machine setup, machine operation, and basic repair activities.

  • Ability to work alongside a lead operator to keep machines and lines running efficiently.

  • Basic understanding of blueprint reading for interpreting part and process requirements.

  • Experience working with gauges, calipers, and other measuring tools for part inspection and calibration.

  • Ability to inspect parts and verify conformance to specifications.

  • Root cause analysis skills to identify and resolve process and equipment problems.

  • High level of dependability with strong attendance and reliability.

  • Commitment to core values, ethical behavior, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.


Additional Skills & Qualifications


  • Previous experience operating CNC or grinding machines is beneficial.

  • Experience working with furnace or ultrasonic (UT) lines is a plus.

  • Comfort working in a precision manufacturing environment where accuracy and consistency are critical.

  • Willingness to learn new processes and cross-train on multiple machines.

  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with operators, leads, and other team members.

  • Attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement in quality and productivity.

Work Environment

The production floor is clean and well-organized, with approximately 80% of the area climate controlled for a comfortable working environment. One production area includes two large ovens, but the temperature in that area remains manageable. Operators work with modern grinding lines, furnace equipment, ultrasonic (UT) lines, and precision measuring tools such as gauges and calipers. Personal protective equipment includes safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and gloves when needed. There is no fixed lunch break; employees have the flexibility to eat between operating cycles and should plan to bring their own lunch. Shift options include a first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and a second shift from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., supporting consistent production coverage in a structured yet supportive environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SUMMERVILLE, SC.


Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.


Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
