Job summary

Hentzen Coatings, a long-established independent coatings manufacturer, seeks a Production Manager - Large Batch to lead the Large Batch department. You will manage scheduling, safety, budgeting, and quality to meet corporate objectives in a fast-paced plant environment.

The role requires 3–5 years in manufacturing (chemical/coatings preferred) and a Associate's degree or equivalent. You will mentor staff, track KPIs, and drive cost efficiency while maintaining a strong safety culture and team

Qualifications

  • Associate's or two-year college degree or equivalent required or preferred.
  • Three to five years of manufacturing experience, preferably in chemicals or coatings.
  • Prior supervisory experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and schedule the Large Batch Department based on sales and plant capacity.
  • Assist with cost control of supplies, waste, labor, and other areas as assigned.
  • Monitor KPI and ensure safety compliance and quality standards.
  • Train operators and existing staff; conduct semi-annual performance reviews.
  • Participate in quality system audits and ISO compliance.

Production Manager - Large Batch

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1st shift

Pay Range (based on experience and qualifications): $70,000 - $90,000 per year.

Position Summary

The Production Manager - Large Batch is responsible for leading the manufacturing process of Large Batch towards meeting corporate objectives in such areas as productivity, employee health and safety, budgeting, cost containment, and quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Organizes and schedules the Large Batch Department's activities based on sales requirements and plant capacity, including manpower.
  • Works with the Production Manager and Director of Liquid Operations on cost control of repair and operating supplies, waste generation, labor costs and other areas that may be assigned.
  • Monitor critical department Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
  • Trains new operators on Large Batch operations.
  • Conduct regular training for existing employees to ensure employee growth.
  • Conduct training to comply with safety regulations.
  • Champions safety and housekeeping initiatives and communicate them to all employees.
  • Monitors quality of products produced to ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Responsible for adherence to safety rules by all direct reports, promoting safe work practices, coaching and any necessary safety training required in addition to that provided by the corporate safety trainer. Also, is responsible for stopping and reporting any safety violations when observed throughout the facility.
  • Utilize the Business Operating System to report operations completed, materials issued, and other related transactions.
  • Interview, hire and terminate employees, as necessary.
  • Conduct performance reviews on a semi-annual basis.
  • Participate in quality system audits for compliance with ISO and quality standards.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
  • Preferred education level: Associate's or two-year college degree or equivalent.
  • Preferred experience level: Three to five years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably chemicals or coatings.
  • Prior supervisory experience is helpful but not required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Forklift certification is strongly preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), ERP systems, and general office equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly in a manufacturing or operational setting.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and move throughout the work area.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, manipulate, and control objects, tools, or equipment.
  • Required to sit, balance, stoop, and occasionally reach above shoulder level.
  • Occasional operation of machinery using foot controls
  • May be required to climb, balance, and reach overhead as part of job duties.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 65 lbs. and occasionally up to 100lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Safety shoes, safety glasses, and flame-retardant uniforms or lab coats are required in production areas.
  • Respirators and ear plugs are required for specific production processes.
